The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) is njow preparing modular tents, solar lamps and other assistance package to thousands of families who were displaced and affected by the onslaught of typhoon “Egay” in Northern Luzon.
DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar said the initial focus of assistance package that also include shelter-grade tarpaulins will be in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley Region and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
He said the preparation and distribution of the assistance package is in response to the order of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.

“Initially, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration and USAID, we will be distributing shelter-grade tarpaulins, modular tents and solar lamps in Regions 1, 2 and CAR. Priority will be families whose homes were either damaged or destroyed by the typhoon,” he added.
Acuzar said DHSUD regional directors in the affected areas are now working closely with LGUs and other concerned government agencies to facilitate and expedite the delivery of assistance.
More than 140,000 families were affected by typhoon “Egay” across the country, around 85,000 of them are in the three regions cited by Acuzar based on the latest report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The NDRRMC report also disclosed that more than 5,000 families in Regions 1, 2 and CAR are staying in evacuation centers.
