NPA rebel  involved in resort raid yields in Batangas


CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel involved in the raid of a private resort and encounter in the province of Batangas surrendered to the police on Sunday, July 3.

The Police Regional Office 4-A identified the surrenderer as Gilbert Torres Moreto, alias “JM,” “KK,” and “S4,” a member of PL Kanluran, EDC Sub-Regional Military Area 4-C, and included in the Periodic Status Report List in the Red Area in the third quarter 2019.

Moreto surrendered at 4 p.m. in Barangay Sambal Ilaya, Lemery, Batangas.

Intelligence operatives of the Batangas police led by Police Staff Sgt. Rommel Olit, under the supervision of Police Major Karl Axcel Santa Clara and Police Capt. Maria Ailyn Franca Curao, conducted a face-to-face negotiation and cooptation that convinced Moreto  to surrender.

Moreto admitted participation and direct involvement in the NPA raid in Hamilo Coast-Pico de Loro, a private resort in Nasugbu, and encounter in Mount Banoi in Batangas City and San Juan, Batangas.
