Iloilo implementing renewable energy projects worth  P30 M this year

ILOILO CITY – The provincial government of Iloilo is implementing renewable energy projects worth P30 million for this year, Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. said.

THE renewable energy programs of the Iloilo provincial government during a recent forum organized by the Regional Development Council (RDC)-6 in Iloilo City.  (Tara Yap) Defensor said these are  part of the expansion of projects as Iloilo province is the country’s first local government unit (LGU) to have enacted a local law as  counterpart to Republic Act No. 9513 or the Renewable Energy Act. In a recent forum organized by the Regional Development Council (RDC)-6, Defensor reiterated the Iloilo Provincial Ordinance of Renewable Energy Ordinance of 2022 (I-PORE 2022). Prior to the passage of I-PORE 2022, the Iloilo provincial government had started implementing the Development of Renewable Energy Applications Mainstreaming and Market Sustainability (DREAMS) project at the Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan town. The hospital managed by the provincial government is the pilot hospital site for DREAMS,  a project of the Department of Energy (DOE) in partnership with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). This year, Defensor said three more hospitals in the province will be added to the DREAMS project with the inclusion of mixed solar-powered energy. These are the Jesus M. Colmenares District Hospital in Balasan town, Ramon D. Duremdes District Hospital in Dumangas town, and Dr. Ricardo Y. Ladrido Memorial District Hospital in Lambunao town.
