A third class municipality in Cebu will soon have a new public market thanks to a land donation from House Deputy Speaker Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco. The town of San Francisco--one of the municipalities that comprise the Camotes Islands--will host the planned public market, specifically in Barangay Consuelo. Frasco, Cebu's 5th district representative, had purchased a 1,287-square meter local property for the purpose of turning it over to the barangay to pave the way for the public market's construction. The House leader used P700,000 from his own pocket to acquire the property, his office said in a statement Monday, July 3. Frasco believes that public market is one of the most essential pillars in the life of a community and the progress of its economy. "It creates many opportunities for local businesses and employment, gives residents better access to fresh and locally grown products, and serves as a place for social and economic activities, among others," read the statement. The soon-to-be built market is seen to become a center for local trade and commerce. It shall contribute greatly to the economy of San Francisco and benefit the people of Camotes and their families, the statement further said. San Francisco town has a population of 59,236 people as per a 2020 census.
