Tiaong, Quezon Mayor Arjay Mea bares gains in address

TIAONG, Quezon – Mayor Vincent Arjay M. Mea reported his accomplishments in his first year as local chief executive during the State-of-the-Municipality Address here on Monday, July 24.

Mea said that tax collection increased as he implemented the Ease of Doing Business Act that made business registration and renewal of business permits faster.

As a result, he said, collection increased by P6 million from P36 million in 2022 to P42 million from January to June 2023.

He said that total taxable assessed value here also went up by 1,400 percent, from P7 million in 2022 to P109 million in 2023.

Mea added that these accomplishments were due to good and honest governance.

“It is important to promote good and fair governance in our country. This includes transparency, accountability, and responsibility in what we do as public servants,” he said.

“It must be a clean and reliable institution that is ready to respond to the needs of the constituents. Having good and honest governance will eliminate corruption, abuse of power, and use of public funds for the personal interests of a few.”

As neophyte local chief executive, Mea assured fair treatment of municipal programs on health, education, social services, infrastructure, livelihood, tourism, environment, non-government organization, agriculture, and peace and order to enable the people to feel the presence of the government attending to their basic necessities.

He said this was the reason MaeAksyon Center, a one-stop shop to serve the needs of the needy, especially senior citizens, was created.

Mea said that P1.2-billion worth of projects has been released to the municipality through the joint efforts of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo and Quezon Rep. David C. Suarez.

These projects were rehabilitation and construction of primary roads, barangay roads, bridges, multi-purpose halls, flood control, and drainage systems.
