PAGASA issues flood advisory for Pasig-Marikina, Tullahan river basins

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a second flood advisory for Pasig-Marikina and Tullahan river basins amid continuous heavy monsoon rains triggered by severe tropical storm Falcon (international name: Khanun) on Sunday, July 30. PAGASA issued its first flood advisory at 6 p.m., Saturday, July 29. A second advisory was issued at 6 a.m. on Sunday as moderate to occasional heavy rains are expected to prevail over these river basins in the next 24 hours. A flood warning was raised over Pasig, Marikina, and Tullahan rivers and their tributaries Upper Marikina River—Rodriguez, Antipolo, and San Mateo in Rizal, Quezon City, and Marikina City; Lower Marikina River—Pasig City and Mandaluyong City; Pasig River—Pasig City, Makati City, Mandaluyong City, and Manila City; Tullahan River—Quezon City, Caloocan City, Malabon City, Navotas City, and Valenzuela City; Mango River—Rodriguez, Rizal; Nangka River—Marikina City, and San Mateo and Antipolo in Rizal; and San Juan River—Quezon City, San Juan, and Manila City. “People living near the mountain slopes and in the low-lying areas of the abovementioned cities and local disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned are advised to take necessary precautionary measures,” PAGASA said. “Local flooding is possible in some areas due to poor drainage systems and impounding water,” it added.
