More than 14,000 jobless residents hired in Manila job fairs
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan announced on Friday, July 28, that 14,393 jobless residents have been hired in the city's job fairs since January this year.
In the city's social media address, Capital Report, Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Chief Fernan Bermejo said 3,455 were hired on the spot; 5,765 via employee placement report; 149 under the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES); and 914 were Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) beneficiaries.
The city government said it also hired 1,000 applicants for Government Internship Program (GIP) and 240 for the national government.
Meanwhile, 31 persons with disability and 57 senior citizens were also hired by various private establishments in the city.
Bermejo said the job fairs were held at sports complexes and public schools of the city barangays.
He likewise thanked the barangay officials who supported PESO by giving them venues for employment facilitation activities.
Meanwhile, Lacuna-Pangan assured that the provision of job opportunities for jobless Manilans will continue in her administration through job caravans, fairs, and other forms of recruitment activities.
"Congratulations po sa lahat ng mga nagka-trabaho at sa atin naman pong mga employers na walang sawang tumutulong sa lungsod ng Maynila, maraming, maraming salamat po at sana ay 'wag po kayong magsawa na tumulong sa ating mga kababayan dito sa ating lungsod (Congratulations to all those who were hired and to our employers who tirelessly help the city of Manila, thank you very much and I hope you don't get tired of helping the locals)," Lacuna-Pangan said.
Several job fairs are also being held during the "Kalinga sa Maynila" or the local government's weekly public forum in the city barangays.
"Nakapag-ugnayan na kayo, nasabi nyo pa sa pamahalaan ang problema ninyo and at the same time, nakapag-avail pa kayo ng services, plus kung naghahanap kayo ng trabaho, baka ma-hire pa kayo on the spot (You have been reached out, you have told the government about your problem and at the same time, you have availed of services, plus if you are looking for a job, you might even be hired on the spot)," she said.
The local chief executive also advised the applicants to wear casual attire, bring ballpens, and at least ten copies of their resumes during the job fairs.
