Marcos declares August 8-14 as PH Space Week

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. approved Proclamation No. 302, declaring August 8 to 14 as “Philippine Space Week” to promote heightened space awareness among Filipinos.

The Proclamation, which was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on July 25 under the authority of the President, stated that the declaration of the “Philippine Space Week” coincides with the enactment of the Philippine Space Act on Aug. 8, 2019.
This was approved upon the recommendation from the Philippine Space Council.
The proclamation also emphasized the importance of the declaration “to highlight the substantial influence of space science and technology applications on the socio-economic development of the country.”
“There is a need to promote space awareness, celebrate the significant contributions of Filipinos worldwide in the field of space science, and espouse the value, benefits and impacts of space science and technology applications on the lives of Filipinos,” the proclamation read.
Through the proclamation, the President directed the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) to promote the observance of the Philippine Space Week by crafting programs, projects, and activities for the yearly observance.
All government agencies, including government-owned or -controlled corporations, state universities and colleges, local government units (LGUs), non-government organizations and private sectors, are also ordered to participate in the “Philippine Space Week.”
