LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte – This province sustained P3.2 billion in infrastructural and agricultural damage from typhoon "Egay." The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said infrastructure and agricultural damage reached P2.8 billion and P361 million, respectively, as of Friday, July 28. “The worst has passed, but there is still more work to do. So, we will continue to be on red alert – not PAGASA's red alert, but in terms of our response. We will remain on red alert in the next few days until we are truly back on our feet. But, in the words of PBBM, ‘Babangon ang Ilocos Norte’” Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc said. Egay affected 233 barangays, almost 60,000 individuals, damaged almost 1,400 houses, and killed four persons. The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte is conducting post-calamity relief operations and has airlifted relief items to an isolated town. Almost 8,500 relief packs have been distributed. The Communications and Media Office (CMO) said 13.95 percent of the province has been energized while 88.08 percent of consumers have regained access to water service.
