The 25-year-old Hatch clocked 52.87 seconds to top Heat 4, but failed to progress in the 16-man semifinal.

Still, his effort erased his old mark of 52.91sec he registered at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia just last May, where he bagged the bronze medal.

Hatch also competed in the 50m butterfly but finished 46th in the heats after timing 24.07sec.

Nine other swimmers also competed for the PH team in the elite tournament, but none advanced to the semis.

Among those were Jerard Jacinto, Monyo Maina, Swaleh Abubakar Talib, Jasmine Alkhaldi, Maria Brunlehner, Xiandi Chua, Thanya Dela Cruz, Emily Muteti and Miranda Renner.
