Hatch resets PH mark in World Aquatics

Fil-American Jarod Hatch reset his own national record in the men’s 100-meter butterfly but settled only for 32^nd overall at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan on Friday, July 28.

The 25-year-old Hatch clocked 52.87 seconds to top Heat 4, but failed to progress in the 16-man semifinal. Still, his effort erased his old mark of 52.91sec he registered at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia just last May, where he bagged the bronze medal. Hatch also competed in the 50m butterfly but finished 46^th in the heats after timing 24.07sec. Nine other swimmers also competed for the PH team in the elite tournament, but none advanced to the semis. Among those were Jerard Jacinto, Monyo Maina, Swaleh Abubakar Talib, Jasmine Alkhaldi, Maria Brunlehner, Xiandi Chua, Thanya Dela Cruz, Emily Muteti and Miranda Renner.
