PARIS (AFP) --Â Former Olympic pole vault champion Thiago Braz of Brazil has been provisionally suspended for doping, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced on Friday, July 28.

"The AIU has temporarily suspended Thiago Braz for the presence or use of a prohibited substance," in this case ostarine, a product generally used to increase muscle mass, the AIU said in a statement. Braz, 29, was crowned Olympic champion in Rio in 2016, and won bronze at the Tokyo Games in 2021. He also won silver at the world indoor championships in 2022. The announcement comes weeks before the start of the world athletics championships in Budapest from August 19-27.
