Rescued were 52-year-old Jomar Asuelo, 46-year-old Lito Candelario, 30-year-old Robert Rodrigo, 37-year-old Romark Acedre, 53-year-old John Borja, 40-year-old Niño Solitario, and 43-year-old Michael Retirado.

The fishing boat sailed on July 23 but because of the impact of the southwest monsoon or “habagat” enhanced by typhoon “Egay,” they took shelter in Masbate for five days. Thinking that the weather has improved, they decided to head back to Estancia. The fishing boat’s outrigger and bow were damaged by strong winds and big waves on their way to Estancia, causing the vessel to sink.
