QC LGU launches start up business plan competition for learners
The Quezon City government has launched the “StartUp QC Business Plan Competition” to allow students in the city to enhance their skills and gain knowledge in entrepreneurship.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said the competition aims to foster an innovative culture among the youth, enable them to broaden their perspectives, and open up opportunities for them to reach their full potential.
“I am confident that our QC students of today will become the future business leaders and technopreneurs of tomorrow,” she added.
According to the city government, the program is open to all students of legal age residing in Quezon City, who are enrolled at any school, college, or university in the country.
The applicants were encouraged to submit imaginative business ideas that are focused on high development impact sectors such as agriculture (agritech), education (edtech), environment (greentech or cleantech), health (health tech) and government services (govtech).

Qualified students will undergo a cadetship training sessions design thinking, cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset and how to create a pitch deck conducted by startup industry experts and educators before they will be able to present their business ideas. The participants may win up to P100,000 for the business ideas they pitched. It said that the competition is supported by national government agencies such as the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), alongside Launchgarage, a startup accelerator and tech innovation hub located in Quezon City. It added that several educational institutions, including Ateneo de Manila University, Miriam College, Quezon City University, Technological Institute of the Philippines, Thames International Business School, and the University of the Philippines Diliman, have endorsed the program. In October 2022, the city also launched the StartUp QC program that aims to create jobs, cultivate the entrepreneurial spirit, promote innovation, develop the start-up ecosystem of the city by providing P1,000,000 financial grant to qualified entrepreneurs and groups.
