“D.P.,” the compelling Korean series starring Jung Hae-in and Koo Kyo-hwan, is set to return today, July 28, for its second season on Netflix.
The series tells about a team of deserter pursuit (DP) in the Korean military police that is tasked to bring back those who abandon their military units.

The first season of “D.P.,” which premiered on Netflix in August 2021, earned acclaim and spotlighted abuse, bullying and violence in the Korean military service. “D.P” won the Series Film Award at the 27th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) and won best drama at the Baeksang Arts Awards and 1st Blue Dragon Series Awards. In “D.P.,” Jung Hae-in is Ahn Joon-ho and Koo Kyo-hwan is Han Ho-yeol, members of the deserter pursuit team. “Season 2 shows what happens when Joon-ho and Ho-yeoll, the arresting team duo, encounter the unchanging reality and absurd injustice behind the system,” said Jung Hae-in during a press conference for the series in Seoul, the Korea JoongAng Daily reported. Director Han Jun-hee explained that “season one ends with a big incident, and the new season deals with how the main characters respond to that event. If the first season was about what the characters could do in their respective situations, this season is about the characters actively finding meaning in what they can do.” Jung Hae-in said his character “is someone who constantly asks questions about what is right and wrong. He asks this question, and also asks what he can do and faces the problems straight on.”

Koo Kyo-hwan said his character “is one of those people we can see ordinarily in everyday life. He is a simple character who just thinks about safely bringing back the deserters.” Also starring in “D.P.” season 2 are Kim Sung-kyun, Son Suk-ku and Ji Jin-hee. “I did not expect that ‘D.P.’ would bring about the kind of talk that it did. We ask questions through the show. We do not offer answers. I thought a lot about why we were handling these dark aspects of the military when we could be telling more lighthearted and fun stories, and this is a question I couldn’t answer,” according to the director.
