DSWD to implement cash-for-work for typhoon victims in Ilocos Norte
Typhoon Egay victims in Ilocos Norte were assured of the implementation of cash-for-work program to provide them with alternative means of livelihood, said Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian on Friday, July 28.
“We expect that cash-for-work program to be available next week pending the local government units’ identification of beneficiaries and verification by the DSWD field office,” Gatchalian said during a meeting with Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc.
The DSWD chief said the cash-for-work program can last between 30 and 45 days and will give typhoon-hit residents an alternative source of income as part of their early recovery and rehabilitation after the disaster.
He added that the DSWD may also implement the emergency cash transfer program for those whose houses were damaged during the onslaught of typhoon Egay.
Gatchalian and Manotoc led the distribution of food packs and non-food items to evacuees in barangays Cabugaan South, Zamboanga, and Araniw in Laoag City.
As part of the augmentation of relief supplies, Gatchalian directed the DSWD-Disaster Response Management Group to ensure that the additional 25,000 family food packs for Ilocos Norte will be delivered to the province as soon as possible.
The DSWD-Ilocos Region initially delivered 10,000 family food packs to the provincial government of Ilocos Norte on Thursday, July 27.
