DPWH: 25 'Egay'-affected roads reopen, 21 others remain closed
A total of 25 roads were cleared and reopened to public after being damaged due to the onslaught of super typhoon “Egay” (international name: Doksuri), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported.
As of 12 noon Friday, July 28, the DPWH Bureau of Maintenance said that 14 roads in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), six in Ilocos (Region I), two in Cagayan Valley (Region II), and one in each Central Luzon (Region III), Mimaropa (Region IV-B), and Western Visayas (Region VI) were already passable to motorists.
However, there are still 21 roads that remain closed due to damaged bridges, landslides, soil collapse, eroded carriageway, and flooding, it added. These are located in CAR, Regions I and II.
The DPWH said that Egay left a trail of destruction in the infrastructure sector amounting to P2.66 billion.
This includes P887.1 million in damages to roads, P48.20 million in damages to bridges, and P1.73 billion in damages to flood-control systems. (Nicole Magmanlac)
