The Antipolo City local government welcomed on Friday, July 28, eight new centenarians as part of its efforts in recognizing their milestone and their contributions to society.
Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares identified the centenarians as: Maria Lourdes Vance - Barangay San Jose Parmenia Aglipay - Barangay Mayamot Ambrosia Cucal - Barangay San Jose Josefa Coo - Barangay Mambugan Aniceta Flores -Barangay San Roque Pilar Caday Santos - Brgy. Mayamot Natalio Legarci Mercader - Brgy. Mayamot Ursula Andres Tomines - Brgy. Bagong Nayon "Buong pusong pagpupugay ang ibinibigay natin sa ating mahal na centenarians ng Antipolo. Sila ay tatanggap ng P100,000 bawat isa (We give due recognition to our centenarians of Antipolo. Each of them will receive P100,000)," Ynares said. He also expressed hope that the amendment to the Centenarians Act of 2016 made by former Senator Bong Revilla will push through which would enable senior seniors to receive their cash gift earlier. In his proposed amendment, the cash gift will be distributed in three installments: first, when they reach the age of 80, second, at the age of 90, and the rest, when they reach the age of 100. In May, the House of Representatives (HoR) approved on third and final reading a bill increasing the cash gift for Filipino centenarians who reach 101 years old from P100,000 to P1 million in a bid to honor and support them. With an overwhelming 257 votes, the chamber approved House Bill (HB) No. 7535, which seeks to grant P1 million to Filipinos who reach 101 years old or centenarians, whether living here or abroad, and P25,000 to Filipinos who reach the age of 80 and 85 (octogenarians), and 90 and 95 (nonagenarians). All of them will also receive a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines. “With this legislation, the House of Representatives would like to honor our countrymen for their years of service to the country and for their discipline in ensuring that they live a long, healthy and fruitful life,” Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said. Some of the principal authors are Reps. Rodolfo Ordanes, Jude Acidre, Sonny Lagon, Daphne Lagon, Brian Yamsuan, PM Vargas, Toby Tiangco, Salvador Pleyto, Roy Loyola, LRay Villafuerte, Loreto Amante, Jam Baronda, Eric Yap, Edvic Yap, Paolo Duterte, Migs Nograles, Lani Mercado-Revilla, Gus Tambunting, and others. “Of course, we also want our octogenarians and nonagenarians to enjoy this benefit while they still can without having to wait until 101 years old so we also provided a cash gift for them,” he added.
