29 villages in Calumpit, Bulacan remain submerged in flood waters


A total of 29 villages in Calumpit, Bulacan remain submerged in floodwaters as of Friday, July 28, due to heavy rainsn following the onslaught of typhoon "Egay" in the province.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRMO) and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Offices (MSWDO) in Calumpit, Bulacan on Friday, July 28, continued gathering data in the areas to recommend to the Sangguniang Bayan the possible declaration of a state of calamity in the province.

In the initial report of MSWDO, a total of 115 families or 387 individuals temporarily took shelter in different evacuation centers.

The evacuees were 19 families from the village of Gatbuca ;  11 families from Gugo; three families from Iba 'O' Este Northville ; 15 from Meysulao; 12 families from Piocruzcosa; San Marcos 7 families; San Miguel (16 families); Sapang Bayan (22 families);  and in Sta Lucia (10 families).

On Thursday night, July 27, the Calumpit MDRRMO reminded their co-barangays to stay alert because Ipo Dam continued to release excess water that passed through Bustos Dam with a discharge of 737 cubic meters per second.

The MDRRMO said that although the water level of Angat River and Sulipan River are still below the alert level, a rise in the water level is expected due to high tide.

Earlier, Bulacan First District Representative Danilo A. Domingo responded to the calls of  village chiefs in Calumpit, Bulacan where 29 villages remained submerged in flood waters.

Barangay Captain Ogie Reyes of Barangay Longos, Rep. Domingo, and Councilor Didis Domingo initially distributed 200 relief goods to flood victims.
