189,815 persons affected by ‘Egay’ in Cordillera


BAGUIO CITY – A total of 189,815 individuals or 49,345 families from 381 barangays in 54 municipalities in six provinces in the Cordillera region have been affected by typhoon “Egay.”

The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera said as 6 a.m. on Friday, July 28, Abra had the most number of affected individuals with 180,163 or 46,677 families from 85 barangays in 26 municipalities.

Apayao had 4,388 individuals or 1,268 families in 64 barangays in all six towns of the province.

Baguio City, which was heavily affected by the typhoon, recorded 18 landslides that killed one person and injured three. More than 1,900 persons or 480 families from 52 barangays were severely affected.

Benguet had 1,195 persons or 344 families from 75 barangays in 13 towns; Kalinga, 925 people or 217 families in 29 barangays from five towns; 1,130 persons or 355 families in five towns in Mountain Province, and 93 people or 22 families in four towns of Ifugao.

Sixty-four houses were totally damaged and 1,445 were partially damaged and 1,795 or 517 families remain in evacuation centers in Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, and Baguio City.

The DSWD has distributed P910,287 worth of family food packs, hygiene kits, family kits, sleeping kits, bottled water, and other non-food items in evacuation centers to evacuees.
