Imee Marcos: We are deeply invested that Marcos administration will work
The Marcos family is deeply invested that the Marcos administration will work.
"I’m solid administration. There's no ifs, no buts. I’m here to protect the President and the family name," presidential sister Senator Imee Marcos told Senate reporters during a press briefing.
Marcos said the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of her brother, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos Jr, was "a great speech so optimistic, encouraging" and "nakakataba ng puso (it makes the heart healthy)."
But in a 180-degree turn, the lady lawmaker asked: "Ngayon makakabusog ba ng tiyan? (Will it fill the stomach?). Tutukan ang mga department ang liwanag ng direksyon ng pangulo (The President is clear…departments must work out the details). paano tutuparin ang mga utos ng pangulo at maraming detalye na kailangang e-workout (The President’s orders should be followed because they have many details). The devil is in the detail," she added.
She emphasized that her being a critic is designed to help her brother’s administration succeed.
She, however, shot down speculations that she would soon join the two-member Senate minority group led by Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III.
Imee Marcos is considered a logical recruit for the Pimentel group.
"Nagbibiruan lang kami nun (We were just joking then). Makulit ako eh gusto ko detalye (I am strict on details). I am always concern a law should work. Ayaw ko ng batas na binabalewala (I don’t want a law to be taken for granted). Kinukulit ko talaga na magwowork (I want it to be workable),’’ she explained.
Asked point blank if she would join the Senate minority bloc, Marcos replied: "No more."
She said she is just too lazy to be a political butterfly.
"Sinasabi na critical ako sa admin, kinakailangang suriing maigi ang problema at maghanap ng solusyon (They say I am an administration critic but what is needed is to help my brother’s administration find solutions)," she said.
Marcos said she was happy when her brother finally became an angry man when he wanted 13 persons at the Department of Agriculture (DA) face charges and wanted smugglers at the ports face the music.
Asked if her brother is serious, Marcos replied: ‘’Seryoso naman ang Pangulo nagmala-Duterte nga (The President is serious after he adopted the ‘macho’ stance of former President Duterte). Kaya tuwang tuwa ako minsan minsan na nga magalit (I am happy that my brother becomes angry once in a while),’’ she added.
She recalls her father, the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., who would be happy when family members take a different position of his views.
"Hindi naman sa kinokontra (Not that I criticize). Mahal ko ang kapatid ko at di kami magkakahiwalay ever (I love my brother and we will never part)," she stressed.
Marcos said old solutions are simply are not good enough in approaching problems.
"My brother is too tired. Ako na ang pastolero (I am the shepherd), We make it clear so that it will work)," she said.
She said she does not often talk to her brother but they see each other during family affairs or official functions.
"Minsan may pasabi si Sandro (There are times Sandro, a presidential son, relay messages). Okay lang normal kaming pamilya (That is normal in our family),’’ she stressed, referring to Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Alexander "Sandro" Marcos III.
Marcos said what her brother needs is for his administration to set the direction and how should they be done in a detailed fashion.
"Tutukan lahat ng ahensya (keep all agencies under your tight watch). Gawin nyo pinakamaganda Execute them well)," she added.
To government departments, Marcos asked them to find solutions and give the details in clear language to protect her brother so that the Marcos name would not be sullied.
