Illegal drug purge in PNP should 'go down to the lowest level', says Acop
Antipolo City 2nd Rep. Romeo Acop (PPAB)
Retired police brigadier general-turmed-Antipolo City 2nd district Rep. Romeo Acop says the purge of cops involved in the illegal drug trade should "go down to the lowest level of the Philippine National Police (PNP)". Acop had this to say in reaction to the resignation of 18 senior police officers who allegedly have links to illegal drugs. President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., eager to continue the stance of the previous Duterte administtation against illegal drugs, accepted the resignations. "It should not end with the colonels. It should go down to the lowest level of the PNP. That is, if we are serious with it," Acop said in an interview. According to the veteran congressman, those who resigned still have a lot to answer for and may still be charged in court. "The acceptance of the resignations does not preclude them from prosecution. If there are pieces of evidence then they should be charged," said Acop, a vice chairman of the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs. While he was "happy" with the resignations, Acop said that the anti-illegal drug campaign within the national police force shouldn't end there. "Masaya ako [sa resignations] pero hanggang doon na lang ba yun? Matagal nang nangyayari ito eh (I'm happy with the resignations but is that it? This has been happening for a long time)," he said.
