Four PCG personnel go missing while on rescue mission off Cagayan waters
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has launched a search and rescue mission for four members of its rescue team on board an aluminum boat that sank off the waters of Abulug, Cagayan.
The four PCG rescuers were supposed to conduct a rescue mission on Wednesday, July 26, some 21 nautical miles off Aparri after receiving a distress call from the crew.
The incident happened while typhoon ‘Egay’ was still hovering inside the country’s area of responsibility wherein one of the major affected areas was the northern part of Luzon.
The PCG’s aluminum boat reportedly encountered strong winds and strong waves, which led to the incident.
The first wave of the search and rescue mission was conducted on Thursday morning, July 28, but it had to be called off due to bad weather conditions.
The PCGH said it will send a Coast Guard Aviation Force (CGAF) helicopter in the area to help in the search and rescue operation.
