Foundation for Liberty and Prosperity honors law scholars, writing contest winners, fellows with CJ Gesmundo as speaker July 28


The Foundation for Liberty and Prosperity (FLP) is set to honor and recognize its new batch of scholars with Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo as guest speaker during the ceremony starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 28, at the Stephen Fuller Hall of the Asian Institute of Management in Makati City.

FLP, a foundation set up in 2011 by retired Chief Justice Artemio V. Panganiban, is also set to recognize the winners of its Dissertation Writing Contest, and the new fellows of its Entrepreneurship, Sustainability, Management, Economics and Business Law (ESMEL) Program.

In a press statement, FLP said that in partnership with the Tan Yan Kee Foundation, it implements the Legal Scholarship Program for 3rd and 4th-year law students from the various law schools in the country.

It said that 21 scholars will each receive P200,000 (P100,000 for tuition, P20,000 for books, and P80,000 for monthly stipends).  They are Betlee-kyle Barraquias (ADMU), Gerifel  Cerillo (ADDU), Joanna Rizza David (BulSU), Susanna Ruth Gruyal (UP), Mia Jasmin Laza (SLU), Alma Angela Patricio (UST), Aimiel Marian Reyes (ADMU), Allan Cairo  Reyes (UP), Marisse Shaine Salazar (DLSU), Azalea Coleen  Salcedo (JRU), Shergina Grace  Alicando (UCebu), Laine Marie J. Bringuelo (DLSU), Frances Mickaella Noreen Chavez (UST), Ian Christian Cosido (UCebu), Almira Bianca De Guzman (DLSU), Patrizia Anne Garcia (DLSLipa), Shandrei Allen  Guevarra (DLSU), Blessie Ngeteg (UCordilleras), Maria Lovelyn Joyce Quebrar (UP), Dana Mae Tadea (FEU), and Kyle Christian Tutor (UP).

They were chosen by the board of judges chaired by Chief Justice Gesmundo with former education secretary Edilberto C. De Jesus; Evelyn Doris Abao of the Tan Yan Kee Foundation; law dean Soledad Deriquito-Mawis, and FLP corporate secretary Joel J. Gregorio, members.

In partnership with the Ayala Corporation, the FLP said the five winners are Clarisse Mae  Zaplan (ADMU), first prize (P320,000); Patrizia Anne  Garcia (DLSLipa), second prize (P220,000); and Anton Gabriel Leron (UP), Michelle Anne Mendoza (ADMU), and Erielle Robyn Ongchan (ADMU), third prizes (P120,000 each).

The winners were chosen by the board of Judges chaired by Supreme Court Justice Amy C. Lazaro-Javier with Ayala Corporation General Counsel Solomon M. Hermosura, Dean Anna Maria D. Abad, and FLP Corporate Secretary Joel J. Gregorio, members, it said.

For ESMEL Fellowship Program in partnership with the Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) through the Metro Pacific Investments Foundation, five graduate students pursuing Master’s degree in entrepreneurship, sustainability, management, economics, and/or business law (ESMEL) were chosen namely: Ma. Andrea Ali (UP), Mark Anthony Angeles (UP), Dave Angelo Calutan (AIM), Margaret Stefanie Arielle Gecana (UP), and Hannah Jara (AIM). They will be awarded a fellowship amounting to a maximum of P450,000 each.

The recipients were chosen by the board of judges chaired by former Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. with former education secretary Edilberto C. De Jesus; Cezar  Juan Consing, president and chief executive officer of Ayala Corporation; June Cheryl Cabal-Revilla, executive director, CFO, CSO and CRO of MPIC; Ms. Maria Elena P. Yaptangco, president and CEO of Baron Travel Corporation; and Atty. Joel J. Gregorio, members, FLP said.

Aside from Panganiban as chairperson of the board, members of FLP’s board of trustees are De Jesus, Tetangco, Jr., Yaptangco, Gregorio, retired SC Justice Angelina Sandoval-Gutierrez (President), retired SC Senior Justice Estela M. Perlas-Bernabe, AIM Prof. Ma. Theresa Mañalac, and Atty. Paolo D. Cortez.
