The death toll from the onslaught of typhoon “Egay” rose to five as four people were reported to have been buried in a landslide in Benguet, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Thursday, July 27.
But NDRRMC officials said the four reported deaths in Benguet, along with the first reported fatality in Rizal, are still for validation if indeed they are related to “Egay”, including the two reported injuries.
The first reported fatality was reported to have drowned in Cardona, Rizal.
Based on the latest NDRRMC data released on Thursday morning, the weather disturbance has so far affected 89,639 families, or 328,356 individuals in 36 provinces across the country, mostly from Northern Luzon and Western Visayas.
A total of 6,793 people were preemptively evacuated in Cagayan Valley Region, Central Luzon, Mimaropa (Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), and Western Visayas.
They were among the 26,697 individuals who are so far inside 306 evacuation centers across the country.
The NDRRMC is yet to finalize the total damage to agriculture and infrastructure although in Cagayan province alone, around P250 million damage to agriculture was initially reported.
