Couple dies as SUV rams motorcycle in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY – An elderly couple died after the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in Bangga Himaya, Barangay Tabao Proper, Valladolid, Negros Occidental on Thursday, July 27. Police identified the victim as Alfredo Barte, 73, and his wife Felicidad, 62, residents of Barangay Miranda, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental. Police Major Eric Doronila, Valladolid police chief, said that Barte failed to notice an approaching SUV driven by a 52-year-old man from this city when he was executing a U-turn. Witnesses told police the SUV was speeding when it crashed into the motorcycle. Barte was declared dead in a hospital while his wife passed away later, Doronila said. Doronila said the SUV driver and his passengers were unharmed. Both parties have reached an initial settlement, he added.
