Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando ordered the dredging of heavily-silted creeks and other waterways in Barangay Longos in the City of Malolos, and in Calumpit on Thursday, July 27, to help mitigate the flooding problem in the province.
Fernando, together with Vice Gov. Alex C. Castro and Bulacan First District Representative Danilo A. Domingo, supervised the dredging operation.
He said that aside from cleaning and de-clogging the waterways, the dredging of heavily silted creeks and rivers can also help mitigate severe flooding.
But Fernando said the fight to protect the environment does not stop in dredging activities alone but entails discipline on the part of all Bulakenyos with regard to proper waste management.
Village Captain Ogie Reyes of Barangay Longos, Calumpit thanked Fernando, Castro, and Domingo for granting his request to also dredge the heavily silted waterways in his area up to Barangay Calumpang, Calumpit so the flood water in the backyards will flow into the creek.
Reyes said flood waters quickly subside if the canals that have accumulated silt are properly dredged.
