While in Malaysia for a state visit, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said that the government is prepared for the effects of Super Typhoon Egay, which caused floods in at least five regions.

In a tweet, the President said that over P173 million in funds are on standby while food and non-food items are already prepared.

Search, rescue, and retrieval personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have already been deployed.

Meanwhile, he said electricity was restored in 93.53 percent of affected municipalities.

The President likewise ensured the safety of the 38,991 affected families in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Soccsksargen.

In his recently concluded State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 24, President Marcos said that his government learned to be prepared for the painful lessons from past disasters in the Philippines.

"We have learned many painful lessons from past disasters, but we continue to be alert and prepared in our disaster response. It has, in fact, been commented that sometimes we are over-prepared for such natural disasters," he said.

According to Marcos, they have started reorganizing the country's response teams to make them more adaptable, agile, and effective in times of calamities and crises, with a clear unity of command.

He likewise assured the public that the government is upgrading evacuation centers to withstand extreme weather and other natural and man-made disasters.

"Furthermore, new evacuation centers are also being built, of which 55 have already been completed," the President said.
