Over 44,000 families affected amid 'Egay' onslaught; NDRRMC validating casualties
Typhoon “Egay” continues to pound Luzon and other parts of the country with heavy rains and strong winds and has so far affected more than 44,000 families and damaged houses and roads, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Wednesday, July 26.
In a situation report based on consolidated updates in various regions, the NDRRMC said there was one person who was reported to have died in Cardona, Rizal and two others injured as a result of “Egay” onslaught.
But it said the three casualties reported are still for validation.
Most of the affected families were reported in Central Luzon with 28,696 families; followed by Western Visayas with 8,034 families; and Central Mindanao with 4,102 families.
The rest of the affected families were from Ilocos Region, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), Mimaropa (Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), Bicol Region and Northern Mindanao.
The NDRRMC said a total of 8,917 families were forced to flee their homes and seek refuge from evacuation centers provided by the local government units. Most of the evacuees are from Western Visayas.
The same NDRRMC report also disclosed that there were more than 8,000 port passengers stranded in various parts of the country after the Philippine Coast Guard suspended all sea travels for public safety.
Twelve roads and a bridge were also damaged as a result of landslide and heavy downpour while 57 houses were either totally or partially damaged.
As for power supply, 45 areas, mostly in the Cagayan Valley region and Western Visayas, experienced power outages.
