The Manila City Council is set to kick off the week-long celebration of its 122nd founding anniversary on July 31 to August 4.
With its theme “Preserving Legacy by Being Future Ready," the city government said the event will be a nostalgic celebration of the council’s milestones as Manila's law-making body.
Its anniversary program will be held at Ayuntamiento de Manila in Intramuros, which will also be attended by former city government officials who will share the early beginnings of the council and its significant role in local governance.

Several plaques of recognition will be awarded to former and present council officials and employees for their service loyalty and positive contributions to the council.
The official website of the 12th City Council headed by Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul Servo" Nieto will also be launched during the celebration week as part of the city's digitalization initiatives.
The city government said the website enables officials in the city to facilitate transparency and accessibility for its constituents.
According to Nieto, he is grateful for the support extended by Manila Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan in the council’s anniversary celebration. He also expressed his appreciation to the city council members as well as former councilors for their help in the event preparations.
In line with the celebration, the city council will also organize a boodle lunch and talent show "City Council’s Got Talent Program" at the Unibersidad de Manila.
The Manila City Council was first organized on July 31, 1901 at Ayuntamiento de Manila, which was the city's former city hall.
