DSWD delivers 17,000 food packs for typhoon Egay victims in Cagayan Valley


The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) delivered 17,000 food packs to four warehouses in Cagayan Valley on Wednesday, July 26, as augmentation assistance to local government units (LGUs) in the region ravaged by typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri).

According to DSWD-Disaster Response and Management Group (DRMG) Assistant Secretary Marlon Alagao, 4,500 food packs were delivered to Santiago, Isabela; 8,000 food packs to Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; 1,500 food packs to Cabarroguis, Quirino; and 3,000 food packs to Abulug, Cagayan.

So far, 1,332 families or 4,322 people are staying in 75 evacuation centers in Cagayan Valley, said DSWD-Field Office II Regional Director Lucia Alan.

Meanwhile, families affected by typhoon Egay and the enhanced southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” have already received about P1 million worth of humanitarian aid from the DSWD and concerned LGUs.

The DSWD currently has stockpiles and standby funds worth P2.16 billion, ready for distribution to concerned LGUs, if needed.
