* A total of 44,356 families composed of 180,439 individuals were already affected by Super Typhoon Egay in 261 barangays in Ilocos (Region 1), Central Luzon (Region 3), Calabarzon (Region 4A), Mimaropa (Region 4B), Bicol (Region 5), Western Visayas (Region 6), Northern Mindanao (Region 10), and Soccsksargen (Region 12), according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). There were also 2,324 families or 8,917 individuals that were brought to 107 evacuation centers in the affected regions. The NDRRMC was verifying one reported fatality in Cardona, Rizal and two injured victims in Rizal and Aklan. AFP Chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. vowed the preparedness of the DRUs from the Philippine Army (PA), Philippine Navy (PN), and Philippine Air Force (PAF) in assisting local government units in the evacuation of typhoon-affected residents. Among those rescued were approximately 100 individuals, including 25 children, from Barangay Caroan in Gonzaga, Cagayan who were taken to a temporary shelter by the DRU from the 30th Marine Company, Naval Forces Northern Luzon of the Navy after their community was inundated by non-stop rains beginning Tuesday, July 25. The evacuees were transported to a temporary shelter in Barangay Smart in the same municipality as power supply in the area was cutoff. Meanwhile, 17 families comprised of 67 individuals were evacuated by the 20th Marine Company in Brgy. Port Irene, Santa Ana, Cagayan. At Camp Atienza, the 525th Engineer Combat Battalion of the 51st Engineer Brigade deployed its personnel and disaster response operations tools, equipment and accessories (DRO-TEAs) to assist many stranded passengers in Libis, Quezon City. NDRRMC Spokesperson Edgar Posadas said they have managed to establish contact with the local civil defense office in Cagayan Valley even after Egay made landfall over Fuga Island around 3:10 a.m. Fuga Island has a population of 2,354 individuals, he noted. “So far, we have established contact with them through the satellite network of the Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT) 8 and Marine Battalion Landing Team 10. Based on the latest report as of 7:30 a.m., there was no major incident or accident after the landfall,” Posadas said. But the situation in Calayan southwest of Babuyan Island in Cagayan was more tense. “We are still waiting to establish contact with them because the antenna of the Police Regional Office 2 was brought down yesterday to avoid damage. That’s our only way to connect with them,” Posadas said. In Santa Ana, Cagayan, Posadas said there were minor incidents such as uprooted trees, fallen electrical posts, and some houses made of light materials that were damaged. “But they have no casualties and their evacuees are being attended to by the DSWD [Department of Social Welfare and Development],” he stated. Thirty-one areas in Cagayan Valley (Region 2) have no power supply, according to Posadas.
