There is no extension of the July 25 SIM registration deadline, but those who still failed to register are given a final five-day grace period or until July 30 to reactivate their SIMs as stipulated in the implementing rules and regulations of the SIM Registration Law, according to telecommunications firms.
Failure to reactivate during this five-day grace period will lead to permanent SIM deactivation.
SIMs unregistered by Monday next week, July 31, will have all services cut off, including incoming and outgoing text messages, calls, and mobile data connectivity.
Also, Â the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) reiterated to the public that there will no longer be any further extension in the deadline to register active SIMs. It may be recalled that the government extended the original deadline of 26 April 2023 by another 90 days, as allowed under the SIM Registration Act, to give full opportunity to millions of users with still unregistered SIMs, to register the same.
NTC said that failure to register SIMs by 11:59PM (i.e., Philippine Standard Time) of July 25 will result in the deactivation of telecommunication and mobile data services including social media access, except for the purpose of having these unregistered SIMs reactivated, but only up to July 30. Access to online banking and other online financial transaction/facility shall also be deactivated.
By July 31, all unregistered SIMs will be permanently deactivated and can no longer
be reactivated/registered.
Unregistered cards will no longer have access to active mobile applications ad well, including banking, transport and other apps crucial for daily needs.
All remaining load balances and promo registrations on unregistered SIMs will also be forfeited.
Those with deactivated SIMs who need mobile services will have to purchase new SIMs, which will then also have to be registered to activate.
The SIM registration grace period is the final opportunity for customers to register their SIMs and secure their mobile services.
Meanwhile, this Sunday, July 23, 2023, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) reported 105,260,340 SIMs had been registered - the latest data, so far.
Of these, Smart Communications Inc. registered 49,740,428 SIMs; Globe Telecom Inc. registered 48,019,084 SIMs and DITO Telecommunity registered 7,500,828 SIMs.
Although registration figures failed to reach 100 per cent, as stipulated in the implementing rules and regulations of the SIM Registration Act, those who fail to make it on today's deadline still have five days- from July 26 to 30, to catch up and save their SIM from permanent deactivation.
Their incoming SMS is still left active so they could receive a One-Time Pin for SIM registration.
To reactivate their SIMs and restore full mobile services, customers have to connect to a WiFi network and complete their SIM registration via the dedicated platform of their telco providers.
