Senators vow to pass Dep’t of Water bill

The Senate should “seize the moment” by heeding President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s marching orders to finally pass the proposed Department of Water Resources Management (DWRM) bill.

“Water deserves serious focus and consolidated effort,” Sen. Grace Poe said after attending the President’s second State of the Nation Address (SONA).

“We must act before the crisis exacerbates. We hope the push for a Water Department law can take a step forward with an urgent certification from the President,” added Poe, who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Services.

Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva also assured that the Water Department bill would now be prioritized by the Upper Chamber.

“Definitely, we will prioritize it as it is requested to us by the President,” Villanueva said pointing out that the Chief Executive spoke to them about it before he addressed the nation on Monday, July 24.

“We are on it. We will have a caucus either tomorrow or I think in the coming days. We will talk about it,” the senator said.

Villanueva also said he is confident the Senate can pass three to four important measures that the President mentioned in his legislative priorities.
