Senators hail Team PH's historic win at FIFA Women's World Cup
Senator Pia Cayetano on Tuesday, July 25 hailed the Philippines’ historic victory at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“The joy and pride we feel right now at the Wellington Regional Stadium are beyond words! With each heart-pounding second that passed, we awaited this historic victory! Our very first win in the World Cup!” Cayetano said in a statement. Cayetano is head of the delegation of the Philippine Women's National Football Team in its historic maiden participation at the FIFA Women's World Cup, held in New Zealand and Australia. “As head of delegation, I want to thank all the Filipinos who came out from all over the world to support the Filipinas, and everyone who cheered online and from their homes!” the senator said. She said that despite being outnumbered by the home team crowd, the Philippine team was encouraged with cheers of "Let's go Pilipinas!" being chanted throughout the stadium. “Our team has courageously defied the odds and has shown through sports, through football, what Filipinos can do when supported and given the opportunity to excel. They are here at the World Cup competing with the best!” the lawmaker said. Cayetano urged Filipinos to contiue supporting the Philippine team, ranked 46, as they take on their next assignment. “(It is) a must win against world No. 12, Norway on July 30 - for a chance to advance from the group stage, Laban Filipinas!” she said. Sen. Manuel “Lito” Lapid also cheered for the Filipino team’s victory at the FIFA Women's World Cup. Lapid said he will soon file a resolution commending the Philippine delegation. “Maghahain po tayo ng isang resolusyon sa Senado para magbigay pugay sa makasaysayang tagumpay ng Team Philippines (We will file a Senate resolution honoring this historic win of Team Philippines),” Lapid said in a separate statement. “Saludo po ako sa inyong ipinakitang tapang, sigasig at katatagan para bigyan ng panalo ang ating bansa. Mabuhay po kayo! (I salute the courage, enthusiasm and resilience you have shown to give our country victory. Congratulations!),” he further said.
