Over 2,700 passengers stranded in ports as 'Egay' intensifies
More than 2,700 people are now stranded in several ports across the country following the suspension on sea travels due to super typhoon “Egay”, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said on Tuesday, July 25.
In a situation report, Bicol has the most number of stranded passengers in various ports in the region with 1,998 people, followed by the Manila North Port with 414.
A total of 99 stranded passengers were reported in Mindoro provinces while 20 passengers in Marinduque and Quezon.
In the Visayas, 16 passengers were reported in Bacolod City and 10 in Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
In Mindanao, 162 passengers were reported stranded in Surigao and 39 in Zamboanga del Norte.
Philippine Ports Aurhority (PPA) General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago earlier ordered all port managers in the areas affected by super typhoon “Egay” to ensure the safety of all the passengers that would be stranded as sea travels are expected to be suspended.
Santiago also ordered port managers and personnel to ensure that food, water and other basic needs of the stranded passengers are prepared until they all the swa travels are allowed.
