Doria places Mimaropa cops on alert for public assistance amid 'Egay' threat
Police Brig. Gen. Joel Doria, director of the Police Regional Office 4B, has ordered all police commanders in the region to extend all the possible assistance to the local government units (LGUs) in ensuring the safety of local residents amid the threat of “Egay” which already turned into a super typhoon level on Tuesday, July 25.
Among the measures that police commanders should be prepared for, according to Doria, are the evacuation of residents living near coastlines and flood and landslide-prone areas and the deployment of personnel and equipment for possible search and rescue operations.
"We are working in close collaboration with local government units and relevant agencies to synchronize efforts and respond effectively to the potential impact of 'Egay',” said Doria.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said “Egayt”, international name Doksuri, has developed into a super typhoon on Tuesday morning,.
Four areas in Luzon were placed under storm signal number , 11 areas are currently under signal number 2 and 26 areas in Luzon and the Visayas are under storm signal number 1.
In his order, Doria emphasized the need for the activation of disaster response teams, strategically positioning trained personnel and essential resources in areas prone to the typhoon's impact.
"We have proactively implemented measures to ensure the readiness of our teams," he said.
The PRO4B, which has jurisdiction over Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan (Mimaropa), also issued safety recommendations to the public amid the threat of “Egay”:
1\. Enhance Home Security: Safeguarding personal residences is of paramount importance\. It is advised to thoroughly fortify homes by meticulously closing all windows and doors\. Should the need arise\, reinforcing these entry points with shutters or plywood is strongly recommended\.
2\. Assemble an Emergency Kit: Preparing an emergency kit is an essential step in mitigating potential risks\. This kit should include vital provisions such as potable water\, non\-perishable food items\, first aid supplies\, flashlights\, batteries\, and important personal documents\.
3\. Stay Informed: Keeping abreast of the latest meteorological updates and heeding the advice disseminated by local authorities is crucial\. Accessing information through reliable local news outlets and radio stations will provide real\-time guidance\.
“We urge the public to remain vigilant, closely monitor weather updates, and adhere to the guidance provided by local authorities to safeguard their well-being and that of their loved ones,” said Doria.
“On our part, the public can be assured that we are equipped and prepared to respond swiftly to any emergency situation that may arise,” he added.
