“Guided by the aspirations of the President this year, we are keen to forge ahead and deliver results anew for the benefit of our Filipino education stakeholders,” DepEd said in a statement issued after Marcos delivered his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 24. DepEd said it continues to share the “noble mission” of Marcos to provide Filipino learners with an “education that secures their future.” Marcos’ statements on basic education made in his second SONA, DepEd said, demonstrated his “dedication to improve the lives of every Filipino.” He also vowed to continue his “outpouring support” for the MATATAG Education Agenda launched early this year. DepEd added that aligned with the directives of Marcos, it has been institutionalizing “relevant and innovative reforms” to recalibrate the curriculum. The Education Department added that it has also been providing “rapid and responsive delivery of education services” and has been taking measures to “ensure the welfare of our learners and teachers.” In his SONA, Marcos said that “learning recovery will be at the forefront of our education agenda.” Marcos noted that the government will continue augmenting the school workforce; adopting alternative delivery modes and blended learning methodologies; and provision of additional social safety nets. “Learners will be made more resilient,” Marcos said. “Our public schools and facilities are being increased and fortified,” he added. He also noted that the government continues to address the shortage of classrooms and facilities and recalibrate the K to 10 curriculum, among others.
