Gatchalian noted that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. himself mentioned the Ease of Paying Taxes bill as one of the priority legislation he enumerated during his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 24. With this, the senator said he is confident the approval of the measure would breeze through faster in the next few months as the Senate resumes its activities for the Second Regular Session of the 19th Congress. “I am optimistic that the inclusion of the Ease of Paying Taxes bill among the executive department’s priority measures, will expedite the enactment of the bill, which I authored,” said Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means. Senate Bill No. 2224 or the proposed Ease of Paying Taxes Act is still pending second reading under Committee Report No. 70. Senators Joel Villanueva and Cynthia Villar are also co-authors of the measure. Gatchalian also expressed his support to the President’s focused and comprehensive strategy for combating inflation. “The President recognized that inflation has been a major problem affecting the lives of our people and he has taken appropriate steps to address the issue,” he pointed out. “Ang nais ng Pangulo na palakasin ang sektor ng agrikultura, palawakin ang mga Kadiwa centers, tuldukan ang smuggling at price manipulation at ang pagbibigay ng suporta para sa imprastraktura, at iba pang gamit sa pagsasaka ay inaasahan nating magpapataas ng productivity sa sektor at magpapababa sa presyo ng mga pagkain at iba pang pangunahing bilihin (The President's desire to strengthen the agricultural sector, expand the Kadiwa centers, stop smuggling and price manipulation and the provision of support for infrastructure, and other agricultural equipment will hopefully increase productivity in the sector and lower the price of food and other basic commodities),” he said. Once executed, the lawmaker said these multi-pronged strategies “will lead to a renaissance of the agriculture sector.” “As a legislator, I am fully committed to supporting legislation that paves the way for policies supporting the farm sector’s sustained growth,” Gatchalian stressed.
