Almost 500 stranded in Western Visayas seaports due to 'Egay'

ILOILO CITY — No area in Western Visayas is under storm signals due to typhoon “Egay” but approximately 500 passengers are stranded across seaports in the region on Tuesday, July 25. Several passenger vessels have canceled sea trips.
Lt. Commander Jansen Benjamin, Coast Guard-6 spokesperson, said that this was primarily after management of passenger ships and vessels decided to cancel inter-island trips due to gale warnings. Bulk of the passengers were stranded at Caticlan Port, which is across world-famous Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan province. They consist of more than 300 passengers that were supposed to ride Roll-on, Roll-off (Ro-Ro) ships bound for Batangas, Mindoro, and Romblon. Another 165 passengers were stranded in a port in Escalante town, Negros Occidental province.  A ship bound for Cebu was cancelled. Sea  trips  between Iloilo City and the island province of Guimaras were cancelled in the morning. But it resumed in the afternoon.
