99 stranded in Calapan City port due to STY ‘Egay’ – PPA

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The Philippine Ports Authority reported that 99 passengers were stranded at the Calapan City port after the Philippine Coast Guard temporarily barred vessels from plying the Batangas to Mindoro route and neighboring provinces due to super typhoon “Egay.”

The PPA-Port Management Office reported that as of 12 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 125 rolling cargoes were stranded at the holding area located five kilometers outside the port premises.

On Monday, July 24, Capt. Ferdinand Allan Joseph Z. Abinoja, commander of Coast Guard Oriental Mindoro, issued a notice to mariners suspending the voyages of all ships and watercraft in the province as Egay affected the northern and central portion of Batangas, Marinduque, and Romblon.

Trips in Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro and Balatero Port in Puerto Galera were also suspended.

The PCG reminded the seagoing public, coastal communities, and fisherfolks not to venture out into the sea and refrain from engaging in any seawater related activities to prevent any untoward incident from Egay.

The PCG and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) evacuated 518 residents in Barangay Claudio Salgado, Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro, due to flashfloods.

On Tuesday morning, Coast Guard Capt. Eddyson Abanilla suspended the trips of small seacraft below 250 gross tons throughout the ports of Occidental Mindoro.
