Majority congressmen Cavite 4th district Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr., Bulacan 6th district Rep. Salvador Pleyto Sr., and 1-Pacman Party-list Rep. Mikee Romero all liked what they heard from President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s second State of the Nation Address (SONA).

"I would like to congratulate the President for delivering a spectacular and no-nonsense second State of the Nation Address," Barzaga said in a statement Monday, July 24, shortly after Marcos delivered his speech at the plenary hall of the House of Representatives.

"As expected, the Chief Executive gave a clear, factual and comprehensive report to the Filipino people, detailing his administration's achievements after a year in office, giving us a lot of hope and optimism," the Cavite solon said.

Barzaga said Marcos "went straight to the point, keeping his performance report simple and bereft of gimmicks -- no pomp and circumstance". He further said the SONA "was terse but meaningful".

"The speech showed that he is dead serious in getting things done and proving that the administration's pro-people agenda is not mere lip-service. I could sense his confidence when he said that the state of the nation is sound and improving and as the song goes, 'We've only just begun,'" Barzaga said.

For Pleyto, the next five years of the Marcos administration is much clearer now, thanks to the President’s latest SONA.

“It’s a compendium of the initial steps the President has done, and it’s obviously a good start," the lawmaker from Bulacan said in a separate statement.

"There are still five more years to go but at least we now have a more concrete idea of the things to come. Simply put - it’s a job well done Mr. President,” added Pleyto.

Romero, on the other hand, hailed the "remarkable achievements" laid out by the Chief Executive in his Monday speech.

“The national leadership has started confronting all of the country’s problems head-on with remarkable achievements. It means its still a work in progress, and it’s all in the right direction," he said.

"The President has started building the blocks of a more progressive Philippines in the years to come," Romero further said.
