PLDT’s balanced effort towed it past visiting foreign club team Kinh Bac-Bac Ninh, 25-23, 25-14, 25-23, for back-to-back wins in the semifinals of the 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference on Monday night, July 24, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The High Speed Hitters kept themselves in contention after improving to an even 2-2 record in the carryover semis standings. After an imposing three-set win over the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, PLDT continued to see the light of the day in its semis campaign. Royse Tubino delivered 12 points built on 11 attacks and one block while Mich Morente and Mae Ceballos tallied 11 points apiece in the much-needed victory. The High Speed Hitters zoomed to a 2-0 commanding lead after a revealing 25-14 blowout in the second set which was enough to keep them determined through the Vietnamese’s third-set fightback. Huong Nguyen and Xuan Le’s combined 26 points paced the Vietnamese squad which remained winless in two matches, with the first loss coming from their debut loss against fellow foreign squad Kurashiki. In the earlier play, Ces Molina’s Cignal was denied of the same fate against the other visiting team as it absorbed a 23-25, 16-25, 23-25 loss from Japan’s Kurashiki Ablaze. Molina was the lone bright spot for the HD Spikers with 12 points on 12 kills as they picked up a similar 2-2 card. For the second straight time, it was Tamaru Asaka who pumped in a team-high performance of 16 points highlighted by 15 attacks as Saya Taniguchi and Yano Yukino joint hands for a combined 21 points behind Asaka. It is now a 2-0 slate for the visiting Japanese squad in the mid-year conference.
