PCG suspends sea travel in Quezon due to ‘Egay’


LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The Philippine Coast Guard temporarily suspended sea travel in southern Quezon after storm signal No. 1 was raised due to tropical cyclone “Egay” on Monday, July 24.

PCG-Southern Quezon commander Janus Robinson Sabas said the suspension covers the towns of Pitogo, San Andres, Buenavista, San Francisco, Calauag, Lopez, Catanauan, Mulanay, Guinayangan, Unisan, General Luna, Plaridel, Quezon, Alabat, Padre Burgos, Macalelon, Mauban, Perez, Agdangan, Gumaca, Atimonan, Real, San Narciso, and Tagkawayan.

Sabas said the suspension is in line with PCG-National Headquarters memorandum circular 02-23 entitled “Revised guidelines on the movement of vessels during heavy weather.”

The order added that voyage may be allowed in main supply routes and special areas under the condition set by the PCG.

Sabas reminded mariners to take precautionary measures and constantly monitor Egay.

He said sea trips will resume when weather and sea conditions improve.

Sabas said that vessels intending to take shelter shall be permitted as long as  the request is manifested through a written request and that no passengers or cargo will be allowed on board.
