In his more than one hour speech, guests comprised of lawmakers, the diplomatic corps, and members of his Cabinet, at the opening of the second regular session of the 19th Congress, applauded the President 68 times.
Marcos got applause from the crowd mostly when he spoke of his accomplishments during his first year as President.
This, however, was lower compared to the 90 rounds of applause he received at his first SONA last year.
The Chief Executive was applauded when he reported about the 7.6 percent growth rate of the economy in 2022 and the projected easing of the inflation rate by 2024.
He also received loud cheers for his warning against smugglers and hoarders, his plan for the Luzon Spine Expressway Network Program that would connect Ilocos and Bicol, and his administration’s crackdown against law enforcers involved in the drug trade.
Marcos’ second SONA lasted for one hour and 10 minutes, starting at 4:07 p.m. and ending at 5:17 p.m.
This was just a few minutes shorter than his 74-minute first SONA in 2022.
Judging by the loud applause and cheers of the crowd, it appeared that Marcos has made good on his promise in the past year.
