The Parañaque city government conducted, on Friday, July 21, a program to promote proper nutrition among residents especially children as part of the 49th year celebration of Nutrition Month.
Mayor Eric Olivarez said the activity, held at Sitio Fatima, Valley 6 covered court in Barangay San Isidro, aimed to help families have access to affordable nutritious food to prevent and reduce malnutrition rates in the city.
He said 50 families -- 30 from Barangay San Isidro and 20 from San Antonio -- joined in the activity, including those who belong to the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), as well as families with malnourished children aged zero to 59 months old.
Olivarez said under the program, the city government in coordination with the Barangay Nutrition Committee will conduct monitoring and check-up activities for children every six months to determine their health status and improvement.
He said the Barangay Nutrition Committee will also feed malnourished children with free food, medicines and vitamins.
The City Nutrition Office conducted lectures for the attendees and were given nutritious food prepared by the Barangay San Antonio Nutrition Committee.
Olivarez said the attendees were also given guava seeds and malunggay which they can plant in their yard from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and City Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Office.
