P72-M flood mitigation project in Alaminos City underway
ALAMINOS CITY, Pangasinan – The construction of a 364-meter flood mitigation structure worth P72 million in this city is underway and is expected to be completed this year.
In a statement, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Ilocos region information officer Esperanza Tinaza said the flood mitigation structure will help prevent floods from causing disruptions to the local economy.
The structure was set up on the Alaminos River which tends to overflow during the rainy season and weather disturbances with heavy rains.
“It can protect the community against potential damages and other unfortunate events that could harm the lives of the people and provide defense against damages that can affect the community,” Tinaza said.
The construction of the structure in Barangay Pogo started last April.
Tinaza said the project was funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2023.
