DOLE: NCR private employees should not be sanctioned if absence is weather-related on July 24
Private sector workers in Metro Manila are excused from any sanctions if they choose not to report for work on Monday, July 24, due to severe Tropical Storm “Egay”, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said.
In its labor advisory, DOLE cited the weather disturbance as a major factor that should be considered by the employers, especially due to threat of heavy rains as advised by the government weather agency.
“Employees who fail or refuse to work by reason of imminent danger resulting from weather disturbances and similar occurrences shall not be subjected to any administrative sanction,” the advisory read.
DOLE, however, clarified that workers who decided to report to work are entitled to full regular pay provided that the employee has rendered work not less than six hours.
It added that if employees rendered less than six hours of work, they are only entitled to the proportionate amount of regular pay, unless there is an existing company policy more beneficial to the employee.(Nicole Magmanlac)
