Gov. Fernando suspends classes, work in Bulacan due to 'Egay,' transport strike

Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando has ordered the suspension of classes in all levels and work in public and private offices in the province on Monday, July 24,  due to the expected heavy rains by typhoon "Egay" as well as the transport strike by some public utility vehicles. Fernando issued Memorandum DRF No.07232023-352dated July 23, 2023, ordering all city and municipality mayors, as well as public and private offices, to allow the conduct of  precautionary measures and ensure the safety of Bulakenyos. But agencies or offices rendering basic health services, disaster preparedness, calamity response, and other primary functions will remain operational. Fernando, also the chairman of the Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, also called for coordination among the local government units in the province, and the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, rescue teams and other government agencies.

No to transport strike

Ronald Saraza, president of Trinoma Transport Federation and Vice President of UV Express National Alliance of the Philippines said there is no reason to launch a transport strike and assured that their members will continue to ply their route from Malolos City to SM North, Trinoma, MRT, and Bus Carousel. "Kung ano man po ang hindi nila naiintindihan dapat daanin sa usapan, hindi Transport Strike kasi mananakay at driver operator ang apektado," (Whatever misunderstanding they may have, they should talk it out, not through a transport strike because commuters, drivers, and their operators will be adversely affected)," Saraza said. According to Saraza, they entered the transportation business as a public servant and they proved this especially during the pandemic, despite the low income.
