22,071 flood victims in Calumpit, Bulacan get food aid


The municipal government of Calumpit, Bulacan, headed by Mayor Lem Faustino and Vice Mayor Zar Candelaria, distributed rice bags to families affected by the flooding brought about by the southwest monsoon and high tide last July 16.

Faustino said that with the help of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) headed by Jon Jon Santiago and rescue teams, more than 20,000 families were given relief packs that contained five kilos of rice.

The rice distribution was held in Barangays San Jose Pulo, Panducot, Corazon, Caniogan, Palimbang, San Marcos, Sergio Bayan, Longos, and Balungao Riverside wherein 5,992 families received the 5 kilos pack of rice. 

On Sunday, July 23, some 16,079 families from the villages of Meysulao, San Miguel, Frances, Gatbuca, Sapang Bayan, Sto Nino Riverside, Calizon, Gugo, Bulusan, Sta Lucia, Iba 'O Este Northville 9, and Pio Lexber also received their rice packs. 

The MDRRMO reported that the villages of Meysulao, San Miguel, San Jose, and Gugo are still flooded with under 1 to 2 feet of flood, while the other barangays remain under a half foot of flood water.

Faustino and Candelaria thanked Sanguniang Bayan Members Lucy Diego, Agnes Pangan, Thelma Dansalan, Alvin Danganan, Jojo Pagdanganan, Jun Bernardino, and Mau Torres, as well as Flor Agbon and Pando Alfonso from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, Nino Torres from the Mayor's office, and the barangay leaders for their support.
