PERSONS with Disabilities in Ilocos Norte receive social pension from the provincial government led by Gov. Matthew Manotoc.
Gov. Matthew Manotoc personally handed over their initial social pension on Friday, July 21. The Communications and Media Office said the provincial government granted P3,000 each to the indigent beneficiaries. They will receive P500 monthly in succeeding months. The provincial government will also implement employment and business programs and financial literacy training for the beneficiaries to sustain their livelihood. Manotoc assured continuous support to PWDs in the province. "Ilocos Norte is very fortunate as it is one of the few provinces in the country to implement a social pension program for PWDs,” Carolyn Domingo, PSWDO Disability Affairs Officer, said. Teresita Agustin, president of the Ilocos Norte Provincial Federation of PWDs, thanked Manotoc for the social pension. “We are very grateful to the governor for giving us PWDs the opportunity to receive cash incentives for our basic needs. Para po sa mga kasama ko na nandito, napakahalaga po ang bawat salapi na tinatanggap namin (For us beneficiaries, every peso counts).” Social pension is a Department of Social Welfare and Development program that gives monthly allowance to qualified Filipinos aged 60-years-old and above for their basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing, and medicine. Ilocos Norte is the first province in the country to give social pension to PWDs.
